Vertical tower motion measurement on wind turbines

Analyze clamping behavior — ensure structural integrity
Wind energy plants with foundation embedded parts (FET) can cause damage to the clamping in the foundation structure. The reason for this is the different physical properties of the foundation body (e.g. concrete) and the embedded part (e.g. steel) — in particular different thermal conductivities and different coefficients of thermal expansion.
These differences require constructive decoupling. If the resulting joint is not permanently sealed, water can penetrate — resulting in concrete flushing, corrosion and, in the long term, a loosening of the form-fitting connection between tower and foundation.
In such cases, vertical tower movement measurement enables a targeted assessment of the clamping — during operation and under defined load changes.
Our measurement process
- Use of four high-precision resistance transducers
- Measurement of the relative movement between foundation and installation part
- Implementation during plant operation and controlled stop
- Evaluation in accordance with FGW Directive Part 7, Section B3 — Establishment and Support Structures
Use cases & benefits
- Technical assessment for visible damage (cracks, movement, flushing)
- Determination of structural weakening of the tension
- Basis for repair concepts on the wind turbine foundation
- Comprehensible documentation to third parties (authority, manufacturer, insurance company)
Why tower motion measurements with 8.2 are the better choice
- Implementation in accordance with the latest state of the art as specified in FGW Guideline Part 7
- Many years of experience with a wide range of damage patterns to foundation systems
- Combination of precise measurement technology and structural evaluation
- Meaningful documentation with clear recommendations for action
- Producer-independent, objectively and legally prepared
With a vertical tower movement measurement of 8.2, you create clarity about the integrity of your supporting structure — comprehensible, compliant and relevant to decisions.
